SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 60 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the members of the Montgomery County Republican Party in celebrating the reopening of the party's historic headquarters; and WHEREAS, In 1964, the members of the County Executive Committee determined there was a need for a full-time headquarters to establish the party's political presence in Montgomery County and to provide a necessary base for the party's activities; and WHEREAS, The party headquarters opened in 1965 and was originally located in a single room adjacent to the lobby of the State Hotel in Conroe; the party faced the challenge of finding a painter who would create a Republican Party sign at the time, and the sign that was eventually painted and hung above the entrance remains at the current headquarters as a reminder of the obstacles overcome by past members of the Montgomery County Republican Party; and WHEREAS, A larger facility was used for a time as the headquarters to accommodate the party's needs, and the party led multiple successful campaigns in the late 1980s and early 1990s; through the creation and continuing support of the party's Roundtable, Business Council, and Sustaining Member Program, funds were raised to enable the party to relocate its headquarters to the former lobby of the State Hotel; the historic building continues to host the members of the Montgomery County Republican Party and to serve as a much-needed headquarters; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Montgomery County Republican Party on a successful reopening of its headquarters and commend the party's members for their continued commitment to civic and political engagement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Montgomery County Republican Party as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
