A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the installation and operation of electric vehicle
charging stations installed or funded by the Texas Department of
Transportation.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 203, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 203.113 to read as follows:
Sec. 203.113. INSTALLATION AND OPERATION OF CERTAIN
ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS. The department shall ensure
that an electric vehicle charging station installed or funded by
the department:
(1) is capable of sending and receiving information
through a communications network;
(2) is capable of responding to a signal from the
electric grid by:
(A) starting or stopping a charge; or
(B) increasing or decreasing the rate of
electricity flow; and
(3) has at least one user interface that allows a user
to operate the charging station in accordance with Subdivisions (1)
and (2).
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
