A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to counties required to hold an election to approve a
reduction or reallocation of funding or resources for certain
county law enforcement agencies.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 120.001, Local Government Code, is
amended to read as follows:
Sec. 120.001. APPLICABILITY. This chapter applies only to
a county with a population of more than 750,000 [one million].
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
to a county budget adopted for a fiscal year beginning on or after
the effective date of this Act. A county budget adopted for a
fiscal year beginning before the effective date of this Act is
governed by the law in effect on the date the budget was adopted,
and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
