9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 154, Family Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 154.0001 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 154.0001. PUBLIC POLICY. It is the public policy of | |
13 | 13 | this state to: | |
14 | 14 | (1) ensure that a child's parents share in the | |
15 | 15 | obligation to support the child after the parents have separated or | |
16 | 16 | dissolved their marriage; | |
17 | 17 | (2) ensure that a child's parents provide support for | |
18 | 18 | the child in accordance with guidelines and procedures established | |
19 | 19 | by law where appropriate; and | |
20 | 20 | (3) establish child support guidelines to guide courts | |
21 | 21 | in rendering an order for the payment of child support by a parent. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
