A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the public policy of this state with regard to child
support.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 154, Family Code, is
amended by adding Section 154.0001 to read as follows:
Sec. 154.0001. PUBLIC POLICY. It is the public policy of
this state to:
(1) ensure that a child's parents share in the
obligation to support the child after the parents have separated or
dissolved their marriage;
(2) ensure that a child's parents provide support for
the child in accordance with guidelines and procedures established
by law where appropriate; and
(3) establish child support guidelines to guide courts
in rendering an order for the payment of child support by a parent.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
