77 relating to renewal of an appointment as a volunteer deputy
88 registrar.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 13, Election Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 13.0315 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 13.0315. RENEWAL OF APPOINTMENT. (a) The registrar
1313 may, not later than November 30 of an even-numbered year, deliver
1414 notice to each volunteer deputy registrar in the county that the
1515 volunteer deputy registrar's term of appointment expires on
1616 December 31 of that year. Notice may be delivered by mail or by
1717 e-mail.
1818 (b) Notice delivered under this section must be accompanied
1919 by:
2020 (1) a renewal application, in a form determined by the
2121 registrar; and
2222 (2) information about any changes in election law that
2323 are relevant to the role of volunteer deputy registrar and that have
2424 occurred during the person's term of appointment.
2525 (c) The registrar shall immediately appoint a volunteer
2626 deputy registrar to a new term beginning on the next January 1 if
2727 the volunteer deputy registrar:
2828 (1) signs the renewal application and returns it to
2929 the registrar before the volunteer deputy registrar's term expires;
3030 (2) signs an affidavit confirming the person has read
3131 and understood any information provided under Subsection (b)(2), if
3232 applicable; and
3333 (3) remains eligible for appointment as a volunteer
3434 deputy registrar under Section 13.031(d).
3535 (d) A volunteer deputy registrar appointed to a new term
3636 under this section is not required to attend training developed
3737 under Section 13.047 unless the person has failed to comply with any
3838 requirement imposed on a volunteer deputy registrar under this
3939 subchapter or other law.
4040 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
