| 7 | 7 | | relating to certain government contracts with and investments in |

| 8 | 8 | | companies that boycott Israel. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 808.001(1), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (1) "Boycott Israel" means refusing to deal with or |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | [,] terminating business activities with[, or otherwise taking any |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | action that is intended to penalize, inflict economic harm on, or |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | limit commercial relations specifically with] Israel, or with a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | person or entity doing business in Israel or in an |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Israeli-controlled territory, but does not include an action made |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | for ordinary business purposes. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
