A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to certain government contracts with and investments in
companies that boycott Israel.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 808.001(1), Government Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(1) "Boycott Israel" means refusing to deal with or
[,] terminating business activities with[, or otherwise taking any
action that is intended to penalize, inflict economic harm on, or
limit commercial relations specifically with] Israel, or with a
person or entity doing business in Israel or in an
Israeli-controlled territory, but does not include an action made
for ordinary business purposes.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
