| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 490I.0106, Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | by adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (c-1) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), the office: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (1) shall evaluate making awards to expand statewide |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | access to broadband service to facilitate communications with: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (A) entities operating critical water or |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | wastewater facilities, as defined by Section 418.0425; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (B) entities operating public safety answering |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | points, as defined by Section 771.001, Health and Safety Code; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (C) public safety agencies, as defined by Section |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 771.001, Health and Safety Code; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (2) may award grants to expand the access described by |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Subdivision (1). |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
