A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the authority of the broadband development office to
award grants for certain facilities.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 490I.0106, Government Code, is amended
by adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows:
(c-1) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), the office:
(1) shall evaluate making awards to expand statewide
access to broadband service to facilitate communications with:
(A) entities operating critical water or
wastewater facilities, as defined by Section 418.0425;
(B) entities operating public safety answering
points, as defined by Section 771.001, Health and Safety Code; and
(C) public safety agencies, as defined by Section
771.001, Health and Safety Code; and
(2) may award grants to expand the access described by
Subdivision (1).
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
