| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 281.057, Health and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Safety Code, is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (a) The board of the Dallas County Hospital District, the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Tarrant County Hospital District, the Bexar County Hospital |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | District, [or] the El Paso County Hospital District, or the Harris |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | County Hospital District may employ and commission peace officers |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the district. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, is |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Art. 2.12. WHO ARE PEACE OFFICERS. The following are peace |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | officers: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (1) sheriffs, their deputies, and those reserve |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | deputies who hold a permanent peace officer license issued under |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Chapter 1701, Occupations Code; |

|---|

| 116 | 116 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 117 | 117 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 118 | 118 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 119 | 119 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 120 | 120 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
