55 relating to Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day in public schools.
66 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
77 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 29, Education Code, is
88 amended by adding Section 29.9073 to read as follows:
99 Sec. 29.9073. TEXAS FRUIT AND VEGETABLE DAY. (a) The first
1010 Friday in April is designated Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day in
1111 public schools to promote awareness of the health benefits of
1212 fruits and vegetables and to encourage students to consume more
1313 fruits and vegetables during Texas Fruit and Vegetable Month under
1414 Section 662.103, Government Code.
1515 (b) Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day shall include appropriate
1616 instruction, as determined by each school district.
1717 (c) The agency may collaborate with other state agencies to
1818 promote Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day.
1919 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024
2020 school year.
2121 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2222 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2323 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2424 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2525 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
