| 6 | 6 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 7 | 7 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 29, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | amended by adding Section 29.9073 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Sec. 29.9073. TEXAS FRUIT AND VEGETABLE DAY. (a) The first |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Friday in April is designated Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | public schools to promote awareness of the health benefits of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | fruits and vegetables and to encourage students to consume more |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | fruits and vegetables during Texas Fruit and Vegetable Month under |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Section 662.103, Government Code. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (b) Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day shall include appropriate |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | instruction, as determined by each school district. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (c) The agency may collaborate with other state agencies to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | promote Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | school year. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
