| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 503.063(j), Transportation Code, is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (j) A vehicle purchased at a public auction may be issued |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and display a buyer's tag without satisfying the inspection |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | requirements of Chapter 548 if: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (1) the vehicle is [purchased at public auction in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | this state and is]: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (A) [(1)] an antique vehicle as defined by |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Section 683.077(b); or |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (B) [(2)] a special interest vehicle as defined |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | by Section 683.077(b) that: |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (i) [(A)] is at least 12 years of age; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (ii) [(B)] has been the subject of a retail |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | sale; or |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (2) the seller of the vehicle is a nonprofit |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | organization. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
