11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 37, Education Code, is |
---|
13 | 13 | | amended by adding Section 37.221 to read as follows: |

14 | 14 | | Sec. 37.221. SAFE FIREARM STORAGE INFORMATION. (a) The |
---|
15 | 15 | | Texas Department of Public Safety and the center shall provide to |
---|
16 | 16 | | all school districts and open-enrollment charter schools |
---|
17 | 17 | | information and resources about safe firearm storage to be |
---|
18 | 18 | | distributed through the district or school to the parents or legal |
---|
19 | 19 | | custodians of students. |
---|
20 | 20 | | (b) The information and resources described by subdivision |
---|
21 | 21 | | (a) shall include information about Texas Penal Code Section 46.13 |
---|
22 | 22 | | and steps parents and legal custodians can take to prevent children |
---|
23 | 23 | | from accessing a firearm. |
---|
24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
