55 relating to the use of an electronic recording device to report

88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 30.00226, Government Code, is amended by
1010 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1111 (c) Instead of using a court reporter to preserve a record
1212 in a case, the governing body may authorize the use of a good
1313 quality electronic recording device to report court proceedings. If
1414 the governing body authorizes an electronic recording, the court
1515 reporter is not required to be present to certify the reporter's
1616 record. The recording shall be kept for the 20-day period beginning
1717 the day after the last day of the court proceeding, trial, or denial
1818 of motion for new trial, whichever occurs last. If a case is
1919 appealed, the proceedings shall be transcribed from the recording
2020 by an official court reporter.
2121 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
