11 | 16 | | Fork Bridge Company to construct a bridge that would allow |

12 | 17 | | stagecoaches with the Overland Mail Company to traverse the West |

13 | 18 | | Fork of the Trinity River; the shipment of supplies by stagecoaches |

14 | 19 | | and wagons became integral to Bridgeport's economy and helped shape |

15 | 20 | | the community's development in its early decades; and |

16 | 21 | | WHEREAS, With its annual Butterfield Stage Days Festival, |

17 | 22 | | Bridgeport has long celebrated its origin as a stop on the historic |

18 | 23 | | Butterfield Overland Mail route, which stretched from St. Louis, |

19 | 24 | | Missouri, and Memphis, Tennessee, to San Francisco, California; in |

20 | 25 | | recent years, the route has garnered increased recognition for its |

21 | 26 | | historical importance, and it was officially designated as the |

22 | 27 | | Butterfield Overland National Historic Trail in January 2023; and |

23 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In addition to Butterfield Stage Days, Bridgeport |

24 | 29 | | incorporates the stagecoach into a number of other annual events, |

25 | 30 | | and the Bridgeport Visitor Center houses a replica Abbot-Downing |

26 | 31 | | Concord coach, a stagecoach originally manufactured in 1827; |

33 | 38 | | nation, and its citizens continue to derive a special sense of pride |

35 | 40 | | most iconic symbols, the stagecoach; now, therefore, be it |

36 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |

37 | 42 | | hereby redesignate Bridgeport as the official Stagecoach Capital of |

38 | 43 | | Texas; and, be it further |

39 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
