55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, School crossing guards play an indispensable role in
77 keeping children safe on their way to and from school, and the
88 designation of February 10 as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day
99 serves as a fitting means to celebrate these everyday heroes; and
1010 WHEREAS, Crossing guards are typically assigned to
1111 crosswalks near campuses, particularly elementary schools, where
1212 they help students and school personnel to safely cross the street;
1313 moreover, their presence serves to make drivers more aware of the
1414 increased pedestrian traffic in the area; crossing guards also
1515 guide younger children in learning the best practices for walking
1616 and bicycling near roadways, and they are on hand to respond if an
1717 emergency situation should arise; and
1818 WHEREAS, These dedicated individuals are on duty each school
1919 day, rain or shine, greeting students and staff and serving as
2020 integral members of the campus community; whether working as paid
2121 employees or as volunteers, crossing guards undergo thorough
2222 training that covers relevant procedures as well as traffic
2323 regulations specific to their area; and
2424 WHEREAS, The safety and well-being of our young people is of
2525 paramount concern to every Texan, and the hardworking crossing
2626 guards of our state deserve our heartfelt gratitude for the peace of
2727 mind they bring to our communities; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
2929 hereby designate February 10 as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day;
3030 and, be it further
3131 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
3232 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3333 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
3434 passed by the legislature.
