| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, School crossing guards play an indispensable role in |

| 7 | 7 | | keeping children safe on their way to and from school, and the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | designation of February 10 as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | serves as a fitting means to celebrate these everyday heroes; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Crossing guards are typically assigned to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | crosswalks near campuses, particularly elementary schools, where |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | they help students and school personnel to safely cross the street; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | moreover, their presence serves to make drivers more aware of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | increased pedestrian traffic in the area; crossing guards also |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | guide younger children in learning the best practices for walking |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and bicycling near roadways, and they are on hand to respond if an |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | emergency situation should arise; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, These dedicated individuals are on duty each school |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | day, rain or shine, greeting students and staff and serving as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | integral members of the campus community; whether working as paid |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | employees or as volunteers, crossing guards undergo thorough |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | training that covers relevant procedures as well as traffic |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | regulations specific to their area; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The safety and well-being of our young people is of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | paramount concern to every Texan, and the hardworking crossing |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | guards of our state deserve our heartfelt gratitude for the peace of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | mind they bring to our communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | hereby designate February 10 as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | passed by the legislature. |
