5+ CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, Christopher McLeod of Brazoswood High School in
67 Clute has been named the 2023 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year by
78 the Texas Association of School Administrators; and
89 WHEREAS, Since 2011, the Texas Teacher of the Year program
910 has recognized and rewarded faculty members who have demonstrated
1011 an outstanding commitment to classroom education and whose efforts
1112 and example have inspired their students, their colleagues, and the
1213 communities they serve; prior to receiving this distinction,
1314 Mr. McLeod was selected as a teacher of the year at the campus,
1415 district, and regional levels; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. McLeod teaches 10th- through 12th-grade rocket
1617 engineering at Brazoswood High School as a part of the Brazosport
1718 Independent School District's Career and Technical Education
1819 program; while fostering the development of engineering skills, he
1920 also focuses on encouraging his students to become collaborators
2021 and problem solvers; through research, design, and fabrication, his
2122 students learn how to build fully functioning rockets, and they
2223 have also hosted design meetings with professionals from a number
2324 of companies, including Blue Origin, SpaceX, NASA, Dow, and BASF;
2425 in addition, members of his Rocketry III class recently set a record
2526 with their Goddard Horizon I rocket at a launch in White Sands, New
2627 Mexico, which flew more than 45,000 feet; and
2728 WHEREAS, Throughout his 11-year career as an educator,
2829 Mr. McLeod has taught physics, chemistry, and engineering, as well
2930 as student council and teen leadership; he holds a bachelor's
3031 degree in marine science from Texas A&M University; and
3132 WHEREAS, Chris McLeod exemplifies the passion,
3233 determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our
3334 best teachers, and he has set a standard of excellence to which all
3435 in his profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
3637 hereby congratulate Christopher McLeod on his selection as the 2023
3738 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year and extend to him sincere best
3839 wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it
3940 further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for Mr. McLeod as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4243 House of Representatives and Senate.
