H.C.R. No. 56 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Christopher McLeod of Brazoswood High School in Clute has been named the 2023 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of School Administrators; and WHEREAS, Since 2011, the Texas Teacher of the Year program has recognized and rewarded faculty members who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to classroom education and whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues, and the communities they serve; prior to receiving this distinction, Mr. McLeod was selected as a teacher of the year at the campus, district, and regional levels; and WHEREAS, Mr. McLeod teaches 10th- through 12th-grade rocket engineering at Brazoswood High School as a part of the Brazosport Independent School District's Career and Technical Education program; while fostering the development of engineering skills, he also focuses on encouraging his students to become collaborators and problem solvers; through research, design, and fabrication, his students learn how to build fully functioning rockets, and they have also hosted design meetings with professionals from a number of companies, including Blue Origin, SpaceX, NASA, Dow, and BASF; in addition, members of his Rocketry III class recently set a record with their Goddard Horizon I rocket at a launch in White Sands, New Mexico, which flew more than 45,000 feet; and WHEREAS, Throughout his 11-year career as an educator, Mr. McLeod has taught physics, chemistry, and engineering, as well as student council and teen leadership; he holds a bachelor's degree in marine science from Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, Chris McLeod exemplifies the passion, determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our best teachers, and he has set a standard of excellence to which all in his profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Christopher McLeod on his selection as the 2023 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. McLeod as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
