56 WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez of
67 McAllen has distinguished himself through his exceptional
78 achievements as a physician and his compassionate work in behalf of
89 low-income and uninsured patients in the Rio Grande Valley; and
910 WHEREAS, A native of Rio Grande City, Alberto Gutiérrez
1011 graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston
1112 in 1966, before completing a medical internship in Fresno,
1213 California; he served his country as a member of the United States
1314 Air Force from 1967 to 1969, and he subsequently operated a family
1415 medical practice in Carlsbad, New Mexico, for 30 years; during that
1516 time, he initiated an annual health screening event and helped
1617 found an organization that provided Christmas gifts for
1718 disadvantaged children; on one of his last days in Carlsbad, he was
1819 recognized by the city's mayor with the proclamation of
1920 "Dr. Gutiérrez Day"; and
2021 WHEREAS, In 1998, Dr. Gutiérrez returned to the Rio Grande
2122 Valley, where for the past 15 years, he has served as the medical
2223 director for Hope Family Health Center in McAllen, a nonprofit
2324 charitable clinic that provides free, integrated medical and
2425 counseling services to low-income residents of the Rio Grande
2526 Valley; and
2627 WHEREAS, Dr. Gutiérrez has also generously shared his
2728 medical expertise with patients at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg;
2829 recently, he was recognized by the organization Futuro RGV for his
2930 ongoing efforts to address the health care needs of low-income
3031 residents; and
3132 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Gutiérrez enjoys the love
3233 and support of his wife, Clare Gutiérrez; the couple take great
3334 pride in their four children, Tatiana, Alberto, Blanca, and Rusty,
3435 as well as their five grandchildren, Harrison, Nicholas, Pearl,
3536 Ryan, and Stephen; and
3637 WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to
3738 know him, Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez has dedicated his life to healing
3839 and to helping those in need, and it is a pleasure to join in
3940 honoring this inspiring Texan; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
4142 hereby honor Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez for his many years of service to
4243 the people of the Rio Grande Valley and extend to him sincere best
4344 wishes for the future; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for Dr. Gutiérrez as an expression of high regard by the
4647 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
