9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of Rio Grande City, Alberto Gutiérrez |

10 | 11 | | graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston |

11 | 12 | | in 1966, before completing a medical internship in Fresno, |
---|
12 | 13 | | California; he served his country as a member of the United States |
---|
13 | 14 | | Air Force from 1967 to 1969, and he subsequently operated a family |
---|
14 | 15 | | medical practice in Carlsbad, New Mexico, for 30 years; during that |
---|
15 | 16 | | time, he initiated an annual health screening event and helped |
---|
16 | 17 | | found an organization that provided Christmas gifts for |
---|
17 | 18 | | disadvantaged children; on one of his last days in Carlsbad, he was |
---|
18 | 19 | | recognized by the city's mayor with the proclamation of |
---|
19 | 20 | | "Dr. Gutiérrez Day"; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In 1998, Dr. Gutiérrez returned to the Rio Grande |
---|
21 | 22 | | Valley, where for the past 15 years, he has served as the medical |
---|
22 | 23 | | director for Hope Family Health Center in McAllen, a nonprofit |
---|
23 | 24 | | charitable clinic that provides free, integrated medical and |
---|
24 | 25 | | counseling services to low-income residents of the Rio Grande |
---|
25 | 26 | | Valley; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Gutiérrez has also generously shared his |
---|
27 | 28 | | medical expertise with patients at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg; |
---|
28 | 29 | | recently, he was recognized by the organization Futuro RGV for his |
---|
29 | 30 | | ongoing efforts to address the health care needs of low-income |
---|
30 | 31 | | residents; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Gutiérrez enjoys the love |
---|
32 | 33 | | and support of his wife, Clare Gutiérrez; the couple take great |
---|
33 | 34 | | pride in their four children, Tatiana, Alberto, Blanca, and Rusty, |
---|
34 | 35 | | as well as their five grandchildren, Harrison, Nicholas, Pearl, |
---|
35 | 36 | | Ryan, and Stephen; and |
---|
36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to |
---|
37 | 38 | | know him, Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez has dedicated his life to healing |
---|
38 | 39 | | and to helping those in need, and it is a pleasure to join in |

39 | 40 | | honoring this inspiring Texan; now, therefore, be it |

40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |

41 | 42 | | hereby honor Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez for his many years of service to |

42 | 43 | | the people of the Rio Grande Valley and extend to him sincere best |
