5+ CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, The Parker County Sheriff's Posse is celebrating the
67 75th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
78 WHEREAS, Established in Weatherford in 1947, the posse
89 adopted a charter outlining such goals as preserving traditions of
910 the Old West, promoting good sportsmanship, good horsemanship, and
1011 civic engagement, and assisting the county sheriff; membership
1112 quickly grew from 20 to 60, and the group held its first parade on
1213 opening day of the 1947 Fort Worth Fat Stock Show; in addition, the
1314 posse participated in several rodeos that year; it purchased 37
1415 acres of land, and riders with stout lariats cleared away post oak,
1516 mesquite, and an abandoned peach orchard; the clubhouse was
1617 completed the following year, and the site has served as
1718 headquarters ever since; and
1819 WHEREAS, The posse formed an early affiliation with the
1920 National Cutting Horse Association; after building an arena, which
2021 would host the Frontier Days Rodeo and the area's first FFA Junior
2122 Rodeo, PCSP continued to expand and improve its facilities; the
2223 organization launched its annual trail ride to Mineral Wells in
2324 1961; over the years, the posse participated in events across the
2425 state and beyond, including the Battle of Flowers Parade in
2526 San Antonio, the Texas State Fair in Dallas, the State Fair of
2627 Louisiana in Shreveport, and the inaugural parade for Governor Mark
2728 White; members brought home numerous trophies, among them three
2829 first-place wins during the 50th anniversary year; and
2930 WHEREAS, In 2006, the posse's Ranch Rodeo proved a tremendous
3031 success, and it became an annual event; the next decade brought
3132 invitations to the prestigious Frontier Days parade in Cheyenne,
3233 Wyoming, where PCSP twice won the Outstanding Mounted Riding Group
3334 award; as its activities have expanded in recent years, it has also
3435 benefited a number of worthy causes, showing support for the
3536 families of fallen officers, wounded warriors, and children in
3637 need, as well as the Parker County Livestock Improvement
3738 Association; and
3839 WHEREAS, Over the course of its long history, the Parker
3940 County Sheriff's Posse has brought the community together for a
4041 host of memorable events and proudly represented Western heritage
4142 in venues far and wide, and its continued existence is a tribute to
4243 the great dedication of its members, past and present; now,
4344 therefore, be it
4445 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
4546 hereby congratulate the Parker County Sheriff's Posse on its 75th
4647 anniversary and extend to the members sincere best wishes for the
4748 future; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
5051 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
