5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Parker County Sheriff's Posse is celebrating the |

6 | 7 | | 75th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and |

7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established in Weatherford in 1947, the posse |

8 | 9 | | adopted a charter outlining such goals as preserving traditions of |
---|
9 | 10 | | the Old West, promoting good sportsmanship, good horsemanship, and |
---|
10 | 11 | | civic engagement, and assisting the county sheriff; membership |
---|
11 | 12 | | quickly grew from 20 to 60, and the group held its first parade on |
---|
12 | 13 | | opening day of the 1947 Fort Worth Fat Stock Show; in addition, the |
---|
13 | 14 | | posse participated in several rodeos that year; it purchased 37 |
---|
14 | 15 | | acres of land, and riders with stout lariats cleared away post oak, |
---|
15 | 16 | | mesquite, and an abandoned peach orchard; the clubhouse was |
---|
16 | 17 | | completed the following year, and the site has served as |
---|
17 | 18 | | headquarters ever since; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The posse formed an early affiliation with the |
---|
19 | 20 | | National Cutting Horse Association; after building an arena, which |
---|
20 | 21 | | would host the Frontier Days Rodeo and the area's first FFA Junior |
---|
21 | 22 | | Rodeo, PCSP continued to expand and improve its facilities; the |
---|
22 | 23 | | organization launched its annual trail ride to Mineral Wells in |
---|
23 | 24 | | 1961; over the years, the posse participated in events across the |
---|
24 | 25 | | state and beyond, including the Battle of Flowers Parade in |
---|
25 | 26 | | San Antonio, the Texas State Fair in Dallas, the State Fair of |
---|
26 | 27 | | Louisiana in Shreveport, and the inaugural parade for Governor Mark |
---|
27 | 28 | | White; members brought home numerous trophies, among them three |
---|
28 | 29 | | first-place wins during the 50th anniversary year; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In 2006, the posse's Ranch Rodeo proved a tremendous |
---|
30 | 31 | | success, and it became an annual event; the next decade brought |
---|
31 | 32 | | invitations to the prestigious Frontier Days parade in Cheyenne, |
---|
32 | 33 | | Wyoming, where PCSP twice won the Outstanding Mounted Riding Group |

33 | 34 | | award; as its activities have expanded in recent years, it has also |
---|
34 | 35 | | benefited a number of worthy causes, showing support for the |
---|
35 | 36 | | families of fallen officers, wounded warriors, and children in |
---|
36 | 37 | | need, as well as the Parker County Livestock Improvement |
---|
37 | 38 | | Association; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of its long history, the Parker |

39 | 40 | | County Sheriff's Posse has brought the community together for a |
---|
40 | 41 | | host of memorable events and proudly represented Western heritage |
---|
41 | 42 | | in venues far and wide, and its continued existence is a tribute to |
---|
42 | 43 | | the great dedication of its members, past and present; now, |
---|
43 | 44 | | therefore, be it |

44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |

45 | 46 | | hereby congratulate the Parker County Sheriff's Posse on its 75th |

46 | 47 | | anniversary and extend to the members sincere best wishes for the |

47 | 48 | | future; and, be it further |

48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

49 | 50 | | prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
