56 WHEREAS, The observance of Nurses Week from May 6 through 12,
67 2023, provides a special opportunity to recognize the vital role
78 these accomplished medical professionals play in our society; and
89 WHEREAS, In the United States, nursing is the largest segment
910 of the health professions, and nurses perform indispensable
1011 functions in a wide range of settings and across the health care
1112 continuum; in Texas alone, hundreds of thousands of nurses work
1213 tirelessly to meet the evolving needs of a growing and diverse
1314 population; and
1415 WHEREAS, Nursing balances compassion and respect for human
1516 dignity with skilled clinical practice and critical thinking;
1617 adhering to the highest professional standards, nurses bring an
1718 unwavering commitment to the well-being of their patients,
1819 especially the most vulnerable, and they serve as trusted advocates
1920 in order to ensure the highest quality of care for all; and
2021 WHEREAS, The American Nurses Association gives voice to the
2122 concerns of its members, and it is committed to expanding access to
2223 primary and preventive health care, which will require better
2324 utilization of all of our nation's nursing resources; in the coming
2425 years, the demand for nursing services is expected to rise
2526 dramatically due to the aging of the American population, the
2627 expansion of life-sustaining technologies, and the rapid growth of
2728 home health care services; and
2829 WHEREAS, The ANA and its affiliate, the Texas Nurses
2930 Association, have designated the entire month of May as Nurses
3031 Month; the event's 2023 theme, "You Make a Difference," highlights
3132 both the great worth of nurses' customary contributions and the
3233 immense role they have played in saving lives and caring for their
3334 fellow Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic; and
3435 WHEREAS, Every day, the expertise, dedication, and hard work
3536 of nurses across the Lone Star State greatly benefit countless
3637 Texans, and Nurses Week provides a welcome occasion to honor these
3738 outstanding professionals; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
3940 hereby recognize May 6-12, 2023, as Nurses Week in Texas and extend
4041 deep appreciation to the state's nurses for the diligence and skill
4142 they bring to their challenging vocation.
