5	5	WHEREAS, The women's soccer team from the Dallas College
6	6	Brookhaven Campus continued its tradition of excellence by winning
7	7	the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III
8	8	national championship on November 13, 2022; and
9	9	WHEREAS, With the victory, the Lady Bears closed out a
10	10	memorable year in which they began the season ranked No. 1 and
11	11	compiled an exceptional conference record of nine wins, no losses,
12	12	and a tie; after claiming the Southwest District title against the
13	13	team from the Dallas College Richland Campus, the Lady Bears
14	14	carried their momentum into the national tournament in Herkimer,
15	15	New York; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Competing against the top Division III junior
17	17	college squads in the country, Brookhaven claimed victories over
18	18	Anne Arundel and Genesee Community Colleges to reach the tournament
19	19	finale against Mohawk Valley Community College; after a closely
20	20	contested first half in which the teams traded goals, the Lady Bears
21	21	scored in the 60th minute to take a 2-1 lead; the Brookhaven defense
22	22	held Mohawk Valley in check down the stretch, and when the final
23	23	seconds ticked off the clock, the players hoisted the championship
24	24	trophy in celebration of the program's second consecutive national
25	25	crown and the fourth overall; the team concluded the season with a
26	26	total record of 16 wins, zero losses, and one tie; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Excelling through teamwork, the Lady Bears received
28	28	valuable contributions during the year from each member of the
29	29	roster: Elora Alexander, Hayli Nichols, Cameron Watson, Natalie
30	30	Lopez, Bailey Clark, Megan Anderson, Mashala Williams, Kenya
31	31	Reynolds, Adriana Padilla, Stephanie Farias, Ivelyn Jimenez,
32	32	Meleni Lorenzo, Gissell Solis, Allison Kolba, Whitni Newbill, Isis
33	33	Balderas, Meah Perez, Roselyn Soto, Nyla Zarrag, Kiana Cisneros,
34	34	Nevaeh Higgins, Zoee Webb, Mayra Gutierrez, Heaven Barrera, Sara
35	35	Suggs, Kayannah Moore, Aliyana Obregon, Kaley Robison, and Alexa
36	36	Bezpalko; the players were ably guided by head coach Jimmy Elder and
37	37	assistant coaches Robert Williams, Albert Masters, and Marina
38	38	Galindo; and
39	39	WHEREAS, By winning back-to-back national championships, the
40	40	Dallas College Brookhaven Campus Lady Bears have burnished the
41	41	school's reputation as a powerhouse of the pitch, and this
42	42	achievement will be fondly remembered for many years to come; now,
43	43	therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
45	45	Legislature hereby congratulate the Dallas College Brookhaven
46	46	Campus women's soccer team on winning the 2022 NJCAA Division III
47	47	national championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff
48	48	sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
49	49	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
50	50	prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
51	51	House of Representatives.
