| 6 | 6 | | to a close with the passing of Kirk D. Myers-Hill of DeSoto on April |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Bastrop on June 25, 1968, Kirk Myers-Hill |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | grew up with the companionship of four siblings, Michelle, Michael, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Kelvin, and Kenneth; at an early age, he moved with his family to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Dallas, where he graduated from the Business Magnet High School; in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | pursuing his life's work as a community leader, he followed in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | footsteps of his mother, the late Irene Trigg-Myers, who was a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | longtime advocate for affordable housing; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Mr. Myers-Hill enjoyed a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | rewarding career as an entrepreneur and a dedicated activist for |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | HIV/AIDS and health care policy; in 2005, he joined together with |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | his mother to found Abounding Prosperity, Inc., a nonprofit that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | seeks to address social and health disparities impacting Black men |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and their families in Dallas County; as its founder and CEO, he led |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the organization in its efforts to assist gay, bisexual, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | transgender residents by providing them with HIV testing and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | screening services, along with a variety of other resources |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | designed to meet clients' specific health, financial, and legal |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | needs; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In addition to these endeavors, Mr. Myers-Hill |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | served as president of Dallas Southern Pride and curated the first |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | "All Black Lives Matter" crosswalks throughout South Dallas; he |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | also successfully campaigned for the renaming of Kimble Park in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | South Dallas in honor of his mother; his myriad contributions to the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | community did not go unrecognized, and the various accolades he |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | received included the 2023 Outstanding Texan Award for House |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | District 100 by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, Mr. Myers-Hill shared |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | a loving partnership with his husband, Ricky Myers-Hill, whom he |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | married on October 22, 2021; one of his proudest accomplishments in |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | life was raising his nephew, Xavier Myers; and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Kirk Myers-Hill distinguished himself as a |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | committed champion for the vulnerable and disadvantaged, and |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | although his life ended far too soon, he leaves behind a legacy that |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | will forever be remembered; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Kirk D. Myers-Hill |

| 44 | 44 | | and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, |
