H.R. No. 1058 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life dedicated to social justice and equality drew to a close with the passing of Kirk D. Myers-Hill of DeSoto on April 4, 2023, at the age of 54; and WHEREAS, Born in Bastrop on June 25, 1968, Kirk Myers-Hill grew up with the companionship of four siblings, Michelle, Michael, Kelvin, and Kenneth; at an early age, he moved with his family to Dallas, where he graduated from the Business Magnet High School; in pursuing his life's work as a community leader, he followed in the footsteps of his mother, the late Irene Trigg-Myers, who was a longtime advocate for affordable housing; and WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Mr. Myers-Hill enjoyed a rewarding career as an entrepreneur and a dedicated activist for HIV/AIDS and health care policy; in 2005, he joined together with his mother to found Abounding Prosperity, Inc., a nonprofit that seeks to address social and health disparities impacting Black men and their families in Dallas County; as its founder and CEO, he led the organization in its efforts to assist gay, bisexual, and transgender residents by providing them with HIV testing and screening services, along with a variety of other resources designed to meet clients' specific health, financial, and legal needs; and WHEREAS, In addition to these endeavors, Mr. Myers-Hill served as president of Dallas Southern Pride and curated the first "All Black Lives Matter" crosswalks throughout South Dallas; he also successfully campaigned for the renaming of Kimble Park in South Dallas in honor of his mother; his myriad contributions to the community did not go unrecognized, and the various accolades he received included the 2023 Outstanding Texan Award for House District 100 by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, Mr. Myers-Hill shared a loving partnership with his husband, Ricky Myers-Hill, whom he married on October 22, 2021; one of his proudest accomplishments in life was raising his nephew, Xavier Myers; and WHEREAS, Kirk Myers-Hill distinguished himself as a committed champion for the vulnerable and disadvantaged, and although his life ended far too soon, he leaves behind a legacy that will forever be remembered; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Kirk D. Myers-Hill and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Kirk Myers-Hill.
