5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Shelley Jeoffroy of Otis Brown Elementary School in |

6 | 6 | | the Irving Independent School District has been chosen as the 2023 |

7 | 7 | | Texas Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of School |
---|
8 | 8 | | Administrators; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Prior to receiving this distinction, Mrs. Jeoffroy |
---|
10 | 10 | | was first selected as a teacher of the year at the campus, district, |
---|
11 | 11 | | and regional levels, and she went on to be named one of the six |
---|
12 | 12 | | finalists for a state award; she was then recognized as the Texas |
---|
13 | 13 | | Elementary Teacher of the Year as well as the Texas Teacher of the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Year, and she will represent the state in the National Teacher of |
---|
15 | 15 | | the Year competition; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Jeoffroy has enjoyed a rewarding career in |
---|
17 | 17 | | education that has spanned 17 years, including 15 years with Irving |
---|
18 | 18 | | ISD; over the course of her tenure, she has taught many subjects and |
---|
19 | 19 | | held numerous roles, including science curriculum and district |
---|
20 | 20 | | assessment writer, team lead for the fourth and fifth grades, |
---|
21 | 21 | | vertical team lead for math, member of the Gifted and Talented |
---|
22 | 22 | | Building Committee, and coach for the Destination Imagination |
---|
23 | 23 | | program; currently, she serves as a fifth grade math teacher at Otis |
---|
24 | 24 | | Brown Elementary; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her work in the classroom, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Mrs. Jeoffroy has been involved with the Science Teachers |
---|
27 | 27 | | Association of Texas and the National Science Foundation, and she |
---|
28 | 28 | | has participated in the Phil Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy; |
---|
29 | 29 | | she has also taught students in Kenya, Peru, Mexico, and Morocco; |
---|
30 | 30 | | she holds bachelor's degrees in English and biology as well as |
---|
31 | 31 | | education credentials from The University of Texas at Arlington; |
---|

---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Jeoffroy benefits from |

34 | 34 | | the love and support of her husband, Jamal Moujahid; during her |
---|
35 | 35 | | leisure time, she enjoys traveling with family; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Shelley Jeoffroy exemplifies the passion, |
---|
37 | 37 | | determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our |
---|
38 | 38 | | best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all |
---|
39 | 39 | | in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Shelley Jeoffroy on being named the |

42 | 42 | | 2023 Texas Teacher of the Year and extend to her sincere best wishes |
