44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A caring and purposeful life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Betty Lou Pendergraft Angelo on February 5, 2023, at the
77 age of 87; and
88 WHEREAS, The only child of Clifford and Betty Pendergraft,
99 "Penny" Angelo was born on September 2, 1935, in Galveston; a member
1010 of the Class of 1953 at Lamar High School in Houston, she continued
1111 her education at The University of Texas at Austin, and following
1212 her graduation in 1957, she began teaching eighth-grade physical
1313 education and science in Odessa; and
1414 WHEREAS, On December 27, 1958, she married the love of her
1515 life, Ernest Angelo Jr., and the happy couple moved to Midland,
1616 where they raised two daughters, Helen and Patricia, and two sons,
1717 Ernest and Cliff; Mrs. Angelo devoted herself to supporting her
1818 children in all of their activities, and later in life, she
1919 delighted in becoming "Gren" to her eight grandchildren, Betsy,
2020 Kimberly, Molly, Maggie, Connor, Murphy, Colin, and Peyton; with
2121 the passing years, she was further blessed with two
2222 great-grandchildren, Ellianna and Alfred; and
2323 WHEREAS, In addition to caring for her family, Mrs. Angelo
2424 took an active role in her community, serving on the Texas Medical
2525 Board and becoming a founding member of the Wagner Noël Performing
2626 Arts Center; moreover, she was involved in the Midland County
2727 Republican Women, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the
2828 Junior League, and Gamma Phi Beta, among other organizations, and
2929 she was a valued congregant at St. Ann's Catholic Church; she was a
3030 woman of many talents, equally skilled at cooking, needlepoint, and
3131 quilting; during the summers, she could often be found on the Taylor
3232 River in Colorado with her loved ones or hosting "Granny Camp" for
3333 her grandchildren; and
3434 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to her family, her faith, and her
3535 community, Penny Angelo earned the lasting respect and admiration
3636 of all who were privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Lou Pendergraft
3939 Angelo and extend sincere condolences to her relatives and friends;
4040 and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Penny
4444 Angelo.
