H.R. No. 1129 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A caring and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Betty Lou Pendergraft Angelo on February 5, 2023, at the age of 87; and WHEREAS, The only child of Clifford and Betty Pendergraft, "Penny" Angelo was born on September 2, 1935, in Galveston; a member of the Class of 1953 at Lamar High School in Houston, she continued her education at The University of Texas at Austin, and following her graduation in 1957, she began teaching eighth-grade physical education and science in Odessa; and WHEREAS, On December 27, 1958, she married the love of her life, Ernest Angelo Jr., and the happy couple moved to Midland, where they raised two daughters, Helen and Patricia, and two sons, Ernest and Cliff; Mrs. Angelo devoted herself to supporting her children in all of their activities, and later in life, she delighted in becoming "Gren" to her eight grandchildren, Betsy, Kimberly, Molly, Maggie, Connor, Murphy, Colin, and Peyton; with the passing years, she was further blessed with two great-grandchildren, Ellianna and Alfred; and WHEREAS, In addition to caring for her family, Mrs. Angelo took an active role in her community, serving on the Texas Medical Board and becoming a founding member of the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center; moreover, she was involved in the Midland County Republican Women, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Junior League, and Gamma Phi Beta, among other organizations, and she was a valued congregant at St. Ann's Catholic Church; she was a woman of many talents, equally skilled at cooking, needlepoint, and quilting; during the summers, she could often be found on the Taylor River in Colorado with her loved ones or hosting "Granny Camp" for her grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to her family, her faith, and her community, Penny Angelo earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who were privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Lou Pendergraft Angelo and extend sincere condolences to her relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Penny Angelo.
