| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Huntsville Municipal Airport has received the 2023 |

| 6 | 6 | | TxDOT Aviation Award for Project of the Year in the Local/Basic |

| 7 | 7 | | category; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A general aviation, business/corporate airport, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Huntsville Municipal Airport averages over 25,000 operations |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | annually; its single 5,000-foot runway has been supported |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | effectively for decades by a parallel Taxiway Alpha and its four |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | connectors, but safety standards have evolved; the Federal Aviation |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Administration now requires greater separation between the runway |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and taxiway; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Seeking to minimize the impact on its tenants, the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | airport divided its construction project into three phases; in the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | first two phases, the northern and southern thirds of the taxiway |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | were relocated; the relocated runway threshold subphases for work |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | inside the Runway Safety Area were built as part of a singular |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | project; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The airport broke ground in November 2022 for the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | third phase, the relocation of the middle third of Taxiway Alpha; in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | addition, this phase has involved moving the airport's Automated |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Weather Observation System; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This major initiative was made possible by support |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | from numerous entities, including the City of Huntsville, the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | electric utility Entergy, TxDOT, the National Oceanic and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Atmospheric Administration, the National Weather Service, and the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | FAA; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The Huntsville Municipal Airport's taxiway |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | relocation project is a reflection of the facility's steadfast |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | commitment to the safety of the flying public, and it is indeed |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | deserving of this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Huntsville Municipal Airport on |

| 36 | 36 | | receiving the 2023 TxDOT Aviation Award for Project of the Year in |

| 37 | 37 | | the Local/Basic category and extend to all those associated with |
