H.R. No. 1132
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Huntsville Municipal Airport has received the 2023
TxDOT Aviation Award for Project of the Year in the Local/Basic
category; and
WHEREAS, A general aviation, business/corporate airport,
Huntsville Municipal Airport averages over 25,000 operations
annually; its single 5,000-foot runway has been supported
effectively for decades by a parallel Taxiway Alpha and its four
connectors, but safety standards have evolved; the Federal Aviation
Administration now requires greater separation between the runway
and taxiway; and
WHEREAS, Seeking to minimize the impact on its tenants, the
airport divided its construction project into three phases; in the
first two phases, the northern and southern thirds of the taxiway
were relocated; the relocated runway threshold subphases for work
inside the Runway Safety Area were built as part of a singular
project; and
WHEREAS, The airport broke ground in November 2022 for the
third phase, the relocation of the middle third of Taxiway Alpha; in
addition, this phase has involved moving the airport's Automated
Weather Observation System; and
WHEREAS, This major initiative was made possible by support
from numerous entities, including the City of Huntsville, the
electric utility Entergy, TxDOT, the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration, the National Weather Service, and the
FAA; and
WHEREAS, The Huntsville Municipal Airport's taxiway
relocation project is a reflection of the facility's steadfast
commitment to the safety of the flying public, and it is indeed
deserving of this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Huntsville Municipal Airport on
receiving the 2023 TxDOT Aviation Award for Project of the Year in
the Local/Basic category and extend to all those associated with
the airport sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the airport as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
