H.R. No. 1138 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team from Ellison High School in Killeen distinguished itself by advancing all the way to the University Interscholastic League 5A state championship game on March 11 at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, In the course of an unforgettable year, Ellison lost just three games during the regular season and went 14-0 against its league rivals to claim the District 22-5A title; the Eagles then launched a thrilling playoff run, defeating Montgomery Lake Creek, Pflugerville Hendrickson, College Station A&M Consolidated, Port Arthur Memorial, and Fort Bend Marshall High Schools to earn the school's second trip to the state tournament and its first since 1992; and WHEREAS, On March 9, the Eagles met Mansfield Summit High School in a hard-fought semifinal battle; showing tremendous heart down the stretch, Ellison held off a late charge by Summit and triumphed 52-50 to reach the state finale; squaring off against Kimball High School in that contest, the Ellison players turned in a valiant effort but finished as the 5A runner-up, closing out the year with an outstanding final record of 38 wins and 4 losses; and WHEREAS, Ellison was paced at state by All-Tournament selections Jamyron Keller and Ahziel McIver; the Eagles also received valuable contributions throughout the year from the other members of the roster: Kesean Garland, Ademola Oladipo, Deion Ware, Khristian Wilkerson, Kristopher White, Sean Parks, Jeremiah Jones, Deric Jones, Darone Leakes, Rashad Jackson, and Isaac Green; these determined student-athletes were ably guided by head coach Alberto Jones and assistant coaches Chris Collins, Jay Hernandez, Charles Desmarais, Jermaine Gilliam, and Walter Prater; and WHEREAS, With their exceptional skill and unwavering commitment to excellence, the Ellison Eagles have earned a place among the top high school basketball teams in Texas, and they are a source of tremendous pride to their classmates and their many supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Ellison High School boys' basketball team on advancing to the 2023 UIL 5A state championship game and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Eagles as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
