55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, The City of Socorro is fortunate to have many
77 veterans of the armed forces serving the community in the ranks of
88 law enforcement; and
99 WHEREAS, Among those in the Socorro Police Department who
1010 have answered their nation's call to duty are the following
1111 individuals:
1212 Chief of Police David Burton, a veteran of the U.S. Army
1313 and a member of the 26th Cavalry during the Cold War;
1414 Deputy Chief Jason Stanzione, who served in the U.S.
1515 Navy as a construction engineer during Operation Desert Shield and
1616 in the army as a member of the military police;
1717 Lieutenant Jasiel Munoz, a veteran of the U.S. Army who
1818 is currently assigned to the 133rd Field Artillery Regiment as a
1919 member of the Texas Army National Guard;
2020 Bailiff/Warrant Officer Samuel C. Anchondo, a veteran
2121 of the U.S. Army who served as a member of the 110th Military Police
2222 Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom;
2323 Detective Elias Valera, a veteran of the U.S. Army who
2424 served as a logistics sergeant and a member of the 3rd Infantry
2525 Division during Operation Desert Storm;
2626 Detective Sergeant Li Rosario, a veteran of the U.S.
2727 Army who served as a logistics specialist and a member of the 383rd
2828 Quartermaster Battalion;
2929 Patrol Sergeant Mario Benavidez, a veteran of the U.S.
3030 Army who served as a multichannel communications equipment operator
3131 and a member of the 11th Infantry Brigade;
3232 Corporal Will Roberson, a veteran of the U.S. Army who
3333 served as a heavy equipment operator and a member of the 47th
3434 Brigade Support Battalion;
3535 Corporal Ricky Acevedo, a veteran of the U.S. Army who
3636 served as an auto maintenance warrant officer, a rotary wing
3737 aviator, and a civil affairs specialist while assigned to the 76th
3838 Transportation Company and the 410th Civil Affairs Battalion;
3939 Senior Patrol Officer DeAndre Cameron, a veteran of the
4040 U.S. Army who served for 27 years in special forces and special
4141 operations;
4242 Senior Patrol Officer Jim Perdue, a veteran of the U.S.
4343 Air Force who served as a security forces airman and a member of the
4444 5th Security Forces Squadron;
4545 Grants Technician Alvina Espinoza, a veteran of the
4646 U.S. Army who served as a multichannel transmission systems
4747 operator-maintainer and a member of the 4th Battalion, 25th
4848 Infantry Division, Higher Headquarters Company during Operation
4949 Enduring Freedom;
5050 Public Works employee Maria G. Cobos, a veteran of the
5151 U.S. Navy who served as a storekeeper and with Commander Fleet
5252 Activities Yokosuka in Japan during Operation Iraqi Freedom, as
5353 well as with the Commander Support Fleet in Guam;
5454 Information Technology Technician Juan Espinoza, a
5555 veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a cannon crew member and
5656 heavy equipment operator and a member of the 115th Forward Support
5757 Company, the 25th Infantry Division Forward Support Company during
5858 Operation Enduring Freedom, and the 47th Brigade Support Battalion
5959 during Operation New Dawn; and
6060 Information Technology Director Estevan Gonzales, a
6161 veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a signal support systems
6262 specialist and as the Army Airborne Command & Control System master
6363 operator for the 25th Combat Aviation Regiment during Operation
6464 Iraqi Freedom; and
6565 WHEREAS, In addition to being a major employer of veterans,
6666 the Socorro Police Department has established itself as a proud
6767 partner of the military community through its support for service
6868 projects organized by the El Paso Veterans & Riders Association and
6969 the 3rd Battalion, 133rd Field Artillery Regiment of the Texas Army
7070 National Guard; these projects have included the 7th annual
7171 Veterans Food Drive, through which the department helped collect
7272 and distribute over 11,000 pounds of food to area veterans and their
7373 families, and Operation Appreciation, which involves delivering
7474 care packages to members of the Texas Army National Guard and public
7575 safety personnel who are patrolling the Texas border; moreover, the
7676 department became the first law enforcement agency to complete the
7777 Bataan Memorial Death March on March 19, 2023; and
7878 WHEREAS, The Socorro Police Department is strengthened by its
7979 steadfast commitment to hiring military veterans and to honoring
8080 and supporting those who have served; the department's veterans
8181 were recognized with a resolution passed by the Socorro City
8282 Council in April 2023, and it is indeed a privilege to join the
8383 community in paying tribute to their courage, dedication, and
8484 patriotism; now, therefore, be it
8585 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
8686 Legislature hereby join the City of Socorro in honoring the Socorro
8787 Police Department and the veterans in its ranks and extend to them
8888 sincere best wishes for continued success with their important
8989 work.
