No. 1183 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The City of Socorro is fortunate to have many veterans of the armed forces serving the community in the ranks of law enforcement; and WHEREAS, Among those in the Socorro Police Department who have answered their nation's call to duty are the following individuals: Chief of Police David Burton, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the 26th Cavalry during the Cold War; Deputy Chief Jason Stanzione, who served in the U.S. Navy as a construction engineer during Operation Desert Shield and in the army as a member of the military police; Lieutenant Jasiel Munoz, a veteran of the U.S. Army who is currently assigned to the 133rd Field Artillery Regiment as a member of the Texas Army National Guard; Bailiff/Warrant Officer Samuel C. Anchondo, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a member of the 110th Military Police Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom; Detective Elias Valera, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a logistics sergeant and a member of the 3rd Infantry Division during Operation Desert Storm; Detective Sergeant Li Rosario, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a logistics specialist and a member of the 383rd Quartermaster Battalion; Patrol Sergeant Mario Benavidez, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a multichannel communications equipment operator and a member of the 11th Infantry Brigade; Corporal Will Roberson, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a heavy equipment operator and a member of the 47th Brigade Support Battalion; Corporal Ricky Acevedo, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as an auto maintenance warrant officer, a rotary wing aviator, and a civil affairs specialist while assigned to the 76th Transportation Company and the 410th Civil Affairs Battalion; Senior Patrol Officer DeAndre Cameron, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served for 27 years in special forces and special operations; Senior Patrol Officer Jim Perdue, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force who served as a security forces airman and a member of the 5th Security Forces Squadron; Grants Technician Alvina Espinoza, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a multichannel transmission systems operator-maintainer and a member of the 4th Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, Higher Headquarters Company during Operation Enduring Freedom; Public Works employee Maria G. Cobos, a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served as a storekeeper and with Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka in Japan during Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as with the Commander Support Fleet in Guam; Information Technology Technician Juan Espinoza, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a cannon crew member and heavy equipment operator and a member of the 115th Forward Support Company, the 25th Infantry Division Forward Support Company during Operation Enduring Freedom, and the 47th Brigade Support Battalion during Operation New Dawn; and Information Technology Director Estevan Gonzales, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a signal support systems specialist and as the Army Airborne Command & Control System master operator for the 25th Combat Aviation Regiment during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and WHEREAS, In addition to being a major employer of veterans, the Socorro Police Department has established itself as a proud partner of the military community through its support for service projects organized by the El Paso Veterans & Riders Association and the 3rd Battalion, 133rd Field Artillery Regiment of the Texas Army National Guard; these projects have included the 7th annual Veterans Food Drive, through which the department helped collect and distribute over 11,000 pounds of food to area veterans and their families, and Operation Appreciation, which involves delivering care packages to members of the Texas Army National Guard and public safety personnel who are patrolling the Texas border; moreover, the department became the first law enforcement agency to complete the Bataan Memorial Death March on March 19, 2023; and WHEREAS, The Socorro Police Department is strengthened by its steadfast commitment to hiring military veterans and to honoring and supporting those who have served; the department's veterans were recognized with a resolution passed by the Socorro City Council in April 2023, and it is indeed a privilege to join the community in paying tribute to their courage, dedication, and patriotism; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby join the City of Socorro in honoring the Socorro Police Department and the veterans in its ranks and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success with their important work.
