H.R. No. 1217
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Las Ramblas in Brownsville has been selected as a
finalist for a 2023 James Beard Award in the Outstanding Bar
category; and
WHEREAS, Nominees for the award are evaluated on the basis of
consistent excellence in atmosphere, hospitality, operations, and
the preparation or curation of drinks, along with positive
contributions to the broader community; and
WHEREAS, Las Ramblas was founded in 2019 by brothers Michael
and Fabian Limas, a financial advisor and attorney by profession,
respectively; inspired by a trip to Spain, they named their
cocktail lounge after La Rambla, the famous street in Barcelona; it
features an extensive drinks menu by Chris Galicia, junior partner
and cocktail and spirits director; he also hosts "The Liquid Lab,"
an interactive cocktail-making activity that teaches the history
and proper use of spirits; and
WHEREAS, Located on Market Square, Las Ramblas has played a
role in the dramatic revitalization of the area; the décor
showcases local as well as Spanish artists, and the bar has hosted
cocktail competitions to benefit nonprofit organizations; the
Limas brothers have further enhanced downtown Brownsville through
ownership of a wine and tapas eatery, Boqueron, next door to Las
Ramblas; their accomplishments were highlighted in a recent Texas
Highways article; and
WHEREAS, Lively restaurant scenes are a boon to the
prosperity of Texas communities, and the national attention that
Las Ramblas has attracted will help to raise awareness of
Brownsville's increasingly vibrant nightlife; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Las Ramblas on its selection as a
finalist for a 2023 James Beard Award in the Outstanding Bar
category and extend to its owners and staff sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the establishment as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
