| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The observance of Psychology Week from April 23 to |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 29, 2023, provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the Texas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Psychological Association; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, TPA traces its origins to 1947, when its founding |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | officers launched an organization to advance psychology as a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | science and as a means of promoting human well-being; the group soon |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | became a state affiliate of the American Psychological Association; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Highly trained professionals, psychologists address |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the complex mental health needs of individuals by providing a wide |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | range of services, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | early in its history, TPA successfully advocated for passage of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Psychologist's Certification and Licensing Act, which established |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists to maintain |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | high standards in the field; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, TPA today supports all branches of psychology; it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | promotes the improvement of research methods and conditions and the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | dissemination of knowledge through a range of avenues; moreover, it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | offers professional development opportunities through its |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | workshops and online instruction as well as at its annual |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | convention; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Psychology Week was created to raise awareness of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | mental health and to celebrate the many ways in which psychology |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | makes a positive difference in our communities, and for more than 75 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | years, the Texas Psychological Association has ably represented the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | profession and enhanced practitioners' ability to serve their |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor the Texas Psychological Association on the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | occasion of Psychology Week 2023 and extend to the members of the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | organization sincere best wishes for continued success in their |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | important work; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
