R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The observance of Psychology Week from April 23 to
29, 2023, provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the Texas
Psychological Association; and
WHEREAS, TPA traces its origins to 1947, when its founding
officers launched an organization to advance psychology as a
science and as a means of promoting human well-being; the group soon
became a state affiliate of the American Psychological Association;
and
WHEREAS, Highly trained professionals, psychologists address
the complex mental health needs of individuals by providing a wide
range of services, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment;
early in its history, TPA successfully advocated for passage of the
Psychologist's Certification and Licensing Act, which established
the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists to maintain
high standards in the field; and
WHEREAS, TPA today supports all branches of psychology; it
promotes the improvement of research methods and conditions and the
dissemination of knowledge through a range of avenues; moreover, it
offers professional development opportunities through its
workshops and online instruction as well as at its annual
convention; and
WHEREAS, Psychology Week was created to raise awareness of
mental health and to celebrate the many ways in which psychology
makes a positive difference in our communities, and for more than 75
years, the Texas Psychological Association has ably represented the
profession and enhanced practitioners' ability to serve their
fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the Texas Psychological Association on the
occasion of Psychology Week 2023 and extend to the members of the
organization sincere best wishes for continued success in their
important work; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
