5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close |
---|
6 | 6 | | with the passing of Mary Elizabeth White Hooten on March 24, 2023, |
---|
7 | 7 | | at the age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Dorothy Jean Arp and O. B. White Jr., |
---|
9 | 9 | | the former Mary White was born on January 6, 1948, in Bell County |
---|
10 | 10 | | and grew up with the companionship of a brother, Jack; she graduated |
---|
11 | 11 | | from Belton High School with the Class of 1966 and continued her |
---|
12 | 12 | | education at Southwest Texas State University, where she pledged |
---|
13 | 13 | | Delta Zeta and served as student council treasurer; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, On January 31, 1969, she married Doug Hooten, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | they became the proud parents of two daughters, Lauren and Amy; with |
---|
16 | 16 | | the passing years, Mrs. Hooten had the pleasure of welcoming into |
---|
17 | 17 | | her treasured family three grandchildren, Noah, Angela, and Kenley; |
---|
18 | 18 | | and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In addition to working as a special education |
---|
20 | 20 | | instructor at Southwest Elementary School in Belton, Mrs. Hooten |
---|
21 | 21 | | devoted herself to raising her children, driving them to and from |
---|
22 | 22 | | various activities, sewing costumes for school plays, and hosting |
---|
23 | 23 | | youth group gatherings; moreover, she gave back to the community as |
---|
24 | 24 | | a volunteer with the Junior League; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hooten and her husband lived in England and |
---|
26 | 26 | | Richmond, Virginia, before moving to Austin to be closer to their |
---|
27 | 27 | | daughters; an avid traveler, Mrs. Hooten visited locations across |
---|
28 | 28 | | Europe as well as Jerusalem, Egypt, China, Russia, Peru, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | Antarctica; known for her culinary skills, she earned an honorary |
---|
30 | 30 | | degree from Le Cordon Bleu, and she was also a talented seamstress |
---|
31 | 31 | | and embroiderer; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Although Mary Hooten will be deeply missed, those |
---|
33 | 33 | | who held her dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness she |
---|
34 | 34 | | brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Elizabeth |
---|
37 | 37 | | White Hooten and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn her |
---|
38 | 38 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

40 | 40 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |

41 | 41 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary |
