55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
77 of David Leos, who passed away on September 2, 2021, at the age of
88 62; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Faustino and Maria Leos, David Leos was
1010 born in Dallas on July 15, 1959; he was raised in Mesquite, and he
1111 grew up with the companionship of seven siblings; following his
1212 graduation from Bishop Lynch High School in 1977, he continued his
1313 education at The University of Texas at Arlington; and
1414 WHEREAS, In 1981, Mr. Leos embarked on a four-decade career
1515 with the Dallas Fire-Rescue department, and he distinguished
1616 himself as one of the city's longest-serving Latino firefighters;
1717 he served on the front lines as a paramedic for 13 years, and along
1818 the way, he endeared himself to others in the department through his
1919 work as a driver engineer and cook; he earned a reputation for his
2020 easygoing demeanor and his ability to accomplish just about any
2121 task, and his colleagues collected many "Super Dave" stories
2222 through the years; and
2323 WHEREAS, David Leos contracted COVID-19 while performing EMS
2424 duties, and he eventually succumbed to complications from the
2525 disease; he was the first active duty firefighter in Dallas to die
2626 from COVID-19 and was laid to rest with full honors from Dallas
2727 Fire-Rescue; and
2828 WHEREAS, Mr. Leos and his wife, Darlene, shared a rewarding
2929 marriage, and he was the proud father of two sons, David and Joseph,
3030 and six daughters, Tiffany, Karyn, Sarah, Helena, Liana, and
3131 Lauren; with the passing years, he experienced the joy of welcoming
3232 six grandchildren into his treasured family; he and his wife loved
3333 traveling, dancing, and participating in Zumba classes together,
3434 and he also enjoyed writing songs, playing the guitar, hunting, and
3535 fishing; known for his skills at the barbecue grill, he began
3636 entering competitions with Papa Leos BBQ, featuring his own secret
3737 sauce; moreover, he was a valued congregant of Lakepointe Church,
3838 and he turned to his faith for guidance in his life, particularly
3939 after fighting a difficult battle with leukemia; and
4040 WHEREAS, Although David Leos is deeply missed, memories of
4141 his faith, his strength, and his devotion to his family remain to
4242 comfort and inspire those he has left behind; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4444 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of David Leos and extend
4545 heartfelt condolences to his relatives and many friends; and, be it
4646 further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4949 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David Leos.
