5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |
---|
7 | 7 | | of David Leos, who passed away on September 2, 2021, at the age of |
---|
8 | 8 | | 62; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Faustino and Maria Leos, David Leos was |
---|
10 | 10 | | born in Dallas on July 15, 1959; he was raised in Mesquite, and he |
---|
11 | 11 | | grew up with the companionship of seven siblings; following his |
---|
12 | 12 | | graduation from Bishop Lynch High School in 1977, he continued his |
---|
13 | 13 | | education at The University of Texas at Arlington; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1981, Mr. Leos embarked on a four-decade career |
---|
15 | 15 | | with the Dallas Fire-Rescue department, and he distinguished |
---|
16 | 16 | | himself as one of the city's longest-serving Latino firefighters; |
---|
17 | 17 | | he served on the front lines as a paramedic for 13 years, and along |
---|
18 | 18 | | the way, he endeared himself to others in the department through his |
---|
19 | 19 | | work as a driver engineer and cook; he earned a reputation for his |
---|
20 | 20 | | easygoing demeanor and his ability to accomplish just about any |
---|
21 | 21 | | task, and his colleagues collected many "Super Dave" stories |
---|
22 | 22 | | through the years; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, David Leos contracted COVID-19 while performing EMS |
---|
24 | 24 | | duties, and he eventually succumbed to complications from the |
---|
25 | 25 | | disease; he was the first active duty firefighter in Dallas to die |
---|
26 | 26 | | from COVID-19 and was laid to rest with full honors from Dallas |
---|
27 | 27 | | Fire-Rescue; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Leos and his wife, Darlene, shared a rewarding |
---|
29 | 29 | | marriage, and he was the proud father of two sons, David and Joseph, |
---|
30 | 30 | | and six daughters, Tiffany, Karyn, Sarah, Helena, Liana, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | Lauren; with the passing years, he experienced the joy of welcoming |
---|
32 | 32 | | six grandchildren into his treasured family; he and his wife loved |
---|
33 | 33 | | traveling, dancing, and participating in Zumba classes together, |
---|
34 | 34 | | and he also enjoyed writing songs, playing the guitar, hunting, and |
---|
35 | 35 | | fishing; known for his skills at the barbecue grill, he began |
---|
36 | 36 | | entering competitions with Papa Leos BBQ, featuring his own secret |
---|
37 | 37 | | sauce; moreover, he was a valued congregant of Lakepointe Church, |
---|
38 | 38 | | and he turned to his faith for guidance in his life, particularly |
---|
39 | 39 | | after fighting a difficult battle with leukemia; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Although David Leos is deeply missed, memories of |
---|
41 | 41 | | his faith, his strength, and his devotion to his family remain to |
---|
42 | 42 | | comfort and inspire those he has left behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of David Leos and extend |
---|
45 | 45 | | heartfelt condolences to his relatives and many friends; and, be it |
---|
46 | 46 | | further |

47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
48 | 48 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
49 | 49 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David Leos. |
