| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Lillian Garvens has distinguished herself in her |

| 6 | 6 | | responsibilities as a policy analyst in the office of State |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Representative Gene Wu during the 88th Legislative Session; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, Ms. Garvens has provided |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | vital assistance in handling a wide variety of challenging tasks, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | including managing legislation related to criminal justice, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | juvenile justice, and family issues, and meeting with constituents |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and other stakeholders; in addition to gaining valuable experience |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in the field of public service, she has learned more about the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | legislative process and the issues facing citizens of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | State; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Garvens earned her bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | sociology and psychology from the University of Oregon in 2020, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | she is currently a graduate student at the Lyndon B. Johnson School |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin; she first |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | served as a member of Representative Wu's staff during the 87th |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislative Session, and she has also worked as a community |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | development manager for Family Service in San Antonio, as a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | community organizer for NextGen America and Organizing Together |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 2020, and as a debate prep intern for the Julián Castro for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | President campaign; she is looking forward to completing the Urban |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Leaders Fellowship program in Washington, D.C. in the summer of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 2023; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Lillian Garvens has performed her duties as a policy |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | analyst with skill and dedication, and she is indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | special recognition for her fine work; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commend Lillian Garvens for her service as a |

| 33 | 33 | | policy analyst in the office of State Representative Gene Wu and |

| 34 | 34 | | extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her |
