H.R. No. 1541
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lillian Garvens has distinguished herself in her
responsibilities as a policy analyst in the office of State
Representative Gene Wu during the 88th Legislative Session; and
WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, Ms. Garvens has provided
vital assistance in handling a wide variety of challenging tasks,
including managing legislation related to criminal justice,
juvenile justice, and family issues, and meeting with constituents
and other stakeholders; in addition to gaining valuable experience
in the field of public service, she has learned more about the
legislative process and the issues facing citizens of the Lone Star
State; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Garvens earned her bachelor's degree in
sociology and psychology from the University of Oregon in 2020, and
she is currently a graduate student at the Lyndon B. Johnson School
of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin; she first
served as a member of Representative Wu's staff during the 87th
Legislative Session, and she has also worked as a community
development manager for Family Service in San Antonio, as a
community organizer for NextGen America and Organizing Together
2020, and as a debate prep intern for the Julián Castro for
President campaign; she is looking forward to completing the Urban
Leaders Fellowship program in Washington, D.C. in the summer of
2023; and
WHEREAS, Lillian Garvens has performed her duties as a policy
analyst with skill and dedication, and she is indeed deserving of
special recognition for her fine work; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Lillian Garvens for her service as a
policy analyst in the office of State Representative Gene Wu and
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Garvens as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
