55 WHEREAS, Padre Island National Seashore has been named one of
66 the top beaches in the United States by the British newspaper The
77 Independent; and
88 WHEREAS, Located on Padre Island between Port Aransas and
99 South Padre Island, Padre Island National Seashore is a national
1010 park that features 66 miles of undeveloped coastal prairie land,
1111 including Laguna Madre, a rare hypersaline lagoon; the park is home
1212 to more than 350 different species, and nearly half of all North
1313 American migratory bird species pass through the park at different
1414 times of the year; and
1515 WHEREAS, Visitors to Padre Island National Seashore can enjoy
1616 a variety of recreational activities, such as boating, fishing,
1717 windsurfing, and camping, and several times each summer, the public
1818 can view sea turtle hatchlings as they are released into the ocean;
1919 and
2020 WHEREAS, A major ecotourism attraction for Corpus Christi,
2121 Padre Island National Seashore was previously recognized as one of
2222 "Five Idyllic Ecotourism Destinations Across the Southern U.S." by
2323 Forbes magazine in 2022; and
2424 WHEREAS, With its natural beauty and abundant wildlife, this
2525 unique ecosystem is one of the treasures of the Texas Coast, and
2626 Padre Island National Seashore is a source of great pride for all
2727 Texans; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2929 Legislature hereby recognize Padre Island National Seashore on
3030 being named one of the top beaches in the United States by The
3131 Independent; and, be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3333 prepared for the park as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3434 House of Representatives.
