5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Marissa Cummings has distinguished herself as a |

6 | 6 | | Texas Legislative Internship Program Fellow and legislative aide in |

7 | 7 | | the office of State Representative Rafael Anchía during the 88th |

8 | 8 | | Legislative Session; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established for students from Texas colleges and |
---|
10 | 10 | | universities in 1990, TLIP offers internships that combine academic |
---|
11 | 11 | | study and research with supervised practical training in the |
---|
12 | 12 | | workings of government; the program is administered by Texas |
---|
13 | 13 | | Southern University; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, Ms. Cummings has provided |
---|
15 | 15 | | vital assistance in researching, filing, and tracking bills, and in |
---|
16 | 16 | | briefing Representative Anchía during hearings and on the House |
---|
17 | 17 | | floor; she has been particularly involved with such critical issues |
---|
18 | 18 | | as voting rights, improving health care access, LGBTQIA+ rights, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and gun safety; in addition, she has conducted meetings seeking |
---|
20 | 20 | | input from constituents, elected officials, and organizations; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Cummings is currently a student at the Texas |
---|
22 | 22 | | Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law; a graduate of |
---|
23 | 23 | | the University of Houston, she holds a bachelor's degree in |
---|
24 | 24 | | broadcast journalism, and she worked for Houston Public Media News |
---|
25 | 25 | | 88.7 and for KIII-TV Channel 3 News in Corpus Christi before |
---|
26 | 26 | | pursuing legal studies; previously, she interned with the 113th |
---|
27 | 27 | | Civil District Court and the First Court of Appeals; she is a member |
---|
28 | 28 | | of the Houston Young Lawyers Association and of the Civil Rights Law |
---|
29 | 29 | | Society at Thurgood Marshall School of Law; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Marissa Cummings has performed her duties as a |

31 | 31 | | legislative aide and TLIP Fellow with skill and dedication, and she |

32 | 32 | | is indeed deserving of special recognition for her fine work; now, |
