H.R. No. 1711 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Marissa Cummings has distinguished herself as a Texas Legislative Internship Program Fellow and legislative aide in the office of State Representative Rafael Anchía during the 88th Legislative Session; and WHEREAS, Established for students from Texas colleges and universities in 1990, TLIP offers internships that combine academic study and research with supervised practical training in the workings of government; the program is administered by Texas Southern University; and WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, Ms. Cummings has provided vital assistance in researching, filing, and tracking bills, and in briefing Representative Anchía during hearings and on the House floor; she has been particularly involved with such critical issues as voting rights, improving health care access, LGBTQIA+ rights, and gun safety; in addition, she has conducted meetings seeking input from constituents, elected officials, and organizations; and WHEREAS, Ms. Cummings is currently a student at the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law; a graduate of the University of Houston, she holds a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism, and she worked for Houston Public Media News 88.7 and for KIII-TV Channel 3 News in Corpus Christi before pursuing legal studies; previously, she interned with the 113th Civil District Court and the First Court of Appeals; she is a member of the Houston Young Lawyers Association and of the Civil Rights Law Society at Thurgood Marshall School of Law; and WHEREAS, Marissa Cummings has performed her duties as a legislative aide and TLIP Fellow with skill and dedication, and she is indeed deserving of special recognition for her fine work; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commend Marissa Cummings for her service as a Texas Legislative Internship Program Fellow and legislative aide in the office of State Representative Rafael Anchía and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Cummings as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
