5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Gabriela Kane Guardia has been named interim |

6 | 6 | | executive director of Latinitas, a nonprofit organization |

7 | 7 | | dedicated to empowering girls through access to media and |

8 | 8 | | technology education; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Guardia earned her bachelor's degree in |
---|
10 | 10 | | international studies and Spanish from Texas A&M University and her |
---|
11 | 11 | | master's degree in Latin American studies from The University of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Texas at Austin, where she also took part in the Portfolio in Arts |
---|
13 | 13 | | and Cultural Management and Entrepreneurship certification program |
---|
14 | 14 | | through the UT College of Fine Arts and the LBJ School of Public |
---|
15 | 15 | | Affairs; along the way, she conducted fieldwork and research in the |
---|
16 | 16 | | areas of Chilean cultural policy and Indigenous representation; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to promoting culturally specific STEAM |
---|
18 | 18 | | education, Ms. Guardia has helped further the mission of Latinitas |
---|
19 | 19 | | through her work as the organization's development and engagement |
---|
20 | 20 | | director; she previously served as an intern for Texans for the Arts |
---|
21 | 21 | | during the 86th Texas Legislature and as deputy director of Texas |
---|
22 | 22 | | Folklife, and she managed SEAD Gallery in downtown Bryan; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Guardia currently serves on the board of Austin |
---|
24 | 24 | | Emerging Arts Leaders and on the advisory council of the Innovation |
---|
25 | 25 | | Collaborative; in 2021, she was accepted into the cohort of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | prestigious National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures |
---|
27 | 27 | | Leadership Institute; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through out her career, Gabriela Guardia has |
---|
29 | 29 | | championed cultural diversity and educational opportunity, and the |
---|
30 | 30 | | passion, energy, and vision that she brings to her new role as |
---|
31 | 31 | | interim executive director are certain to greatly benefit Latinitas |
---|
32 | 32 | | and the young women it serves; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Gabriela Kane Guardia on her |
---|
35 | 35 | | appointment as interim executive director of Latinitas and extend |
---|
36 | 36 | | to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
