H.R. No. 1712 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Gabriela Kane Guardia has been named interim executive director of Latinitas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls through access to media and technology education; and WHEREAS, Ms. Guardia earned her bachelor's degree in international studies and Spanish from Texas A&M University and her master's degree in Latin American studies from The University of Texas at Austin, where she also took part in the Portfolio in Arts and Cultural Management and Entrepreneurship certification program through the UT College of Fine Arts and the LBJ School of Public Affairs; along the way, she conducted fieldwork and research in the areas of Chilean cultural policy and Indigenous representation; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to promoting culturally specific STEAM education, Ms. Guardia has helped further the mission of Latinitas through her work as the organization's development and engagement director; she previously served as an intern for Texans for the Arts during the 86th Texas Legislature and as deputy director of Texas Folklife, and she managed SEAD Gallery in downtown Bryan; and WHEREAS, Ms. Guardia currently serves on the board of Austin Emerging Arts Leaders and on the advisory council of the Innovation Collaborative; in 2021, she was accepted into the cohort of the prestigious National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures Leadership Institute; and WHEREAS, Through out her career, Gabriela Guardia has championed cultural diversity and educational opportunity, and the passion, energy, and vision that she brings to her new role as interim executive director are certain to greatly benefit Latinitas and the young women it serves; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Gabriela Kane Guardia on her appointment as interim executive director of Latinitas and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Guardia as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
