44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Priscila Medina, a sophomore at Texas Christian
66 University, has distinguished herself through her success in the
77 boxing ring and through her contributions to her community; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Los Angeles, California, Ms. Medina
99 persevered through numerous obstacles as a youth to earn a perfect
1010 4.0 grade point average in high school; the challenges she faced
1111 along the way inspired her to enter the sport of boxing in 2016; and
1212 WHEREAS, Ms. Medina competes in the flyweight class as a
1313 member of Team USA, and she has secured two first-place finishes in
1414 USA Boxing events, turning in outstanding performances at the 2017
1515 National Junior Olympics and the 2018 Junior Open; moreover, she
1616 has recorded top-three showings in competitions including the
1717 National Championships, the National Junior Olympics, and the
1818 National Junior Golden Gloves; internationally, she collected a
1919 gold medal in her division at the 2019 Silesian Women's
2020 Championships; in addition to her athletic endeavors, she is
2121 studying criminal justice at TCU; and
2222 WHEREAS, Civically engaged, Ms. Medina lends her time and
2323 energy to such organizations as Project Blue and Watts2Boston, a
2424 nonprofit that helps high school students navigate the path to
2525 college; furthermore, she is actively involved with church
2626 outreach, and she works with the elderly; and
2727 WHEREAS, Priscila Medina has demonstrated an unwavering
2828 commitment to excellence as an athlete and in her community service
2929 endeavors, and she is indeed deserving of special recognition; now,
3030 therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3232 Legislature hereby commend Priscila Medina for her accomplishments
3333 in boxing and for her dedication to her community and extend to her
3434 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3636 prepared for Ms. Medina as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3737 House of Representatives.
