| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Priscila Medina, a sophomore at Texas Christian |

| 6 | 6 | | University, has distinguished herself through her success in the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | boxing ring and through her contributions to her community; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Los Angeles, California, Ms. Medina |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | persevered through numerous obstacles as a youth to earn a perfect |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 4.0 grade point average in high school; the challenges she faced |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | along the way inspired her to enter the sport of boxing in 2016; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Medina competes in the flyweight class as a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | member of Team USA, and she has secured two first-place finishes in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | USA Boxing events, turning in outstanding performances at the 2017 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | National Junior Olympics and the 2018 Junior Open; moreover, she |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | has recorded top-three showings in competitions including the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | National Championships, the National Junior Olympics, and the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | National Junior Golden Gloves; internationally, she collected a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | gold medal in her division at the 2019 Silesian Women's |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Championships; in addition to her athletic endeavors, she is |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | studying criminal justice at TCU; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Civically engaged, Ms. Medina lends her time and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | energy to such organizations as Project Blue and Watts2Boston, a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | nonprofit that helps high school students navigate the path to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | college; furthermore, she is actively involved with church |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | outreach, and she works with the elderly; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Priscila Medina has demonstrated an unwavering |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | commitment to excellence as an athlete and in her community service |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | endeavors, and she is indeed deserving of special recognition; now, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commend Priscila Medina for her accomplishments |
