H.R. No. 1753 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Priscila Medina, a sophomore at Texas Christian University, has distinguished herself through her success in the boxing ring and through her contributions to her community; and WHEREAS, A native of Los Angeles, California, Ms. Medina persevered through numerous obstacles as a youth to earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average in high school; the challenges she faced along the way inspired her to enter the sport of boxing in 2016; and WHEREAS, Ms. Medina competes in the flyweight class as a member of Team USA, and she has secured two first-place finishes in USA Boxing events, turning in outstanding performances at the 2017 National Junior Olympics and the 2018 Junior Open; moreover, she has recorded top-three showings in competitions including the National Championships, the National Junior Olympics, and the National Junior Golden Gloves; internationally, she collected a gold medal in her division at the 2019 Silesian Women's Championships; in addition to her athletic endeavors, she is studying criminal justice at TCU; and WHEREAS, Civically engaged, Ms. Medina lends her time and energy to such organizations as Project Blue and Watts2Boston, a nonprofit that helps high school students navigate the path to college; furthermore, she is actively involved with church outreach, and she works with the elderly; and WHEREAS, Priscila Medina has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence as an athlete and in her community service endeavors, and she is indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commend Priscila Medina for her accomplishments in boxing and for her dedication to her community and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Medina as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
