| 7 | 7 | | University Interscholastic League 2A Cross-Examination Debate |

|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Guided by their sponsor, Sheryl Oliver, the |

| 10 | 10 | | Panhandle debate team of Kelby Olsen and Andrew Menefee received |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the gold medal and the team of McCade Smith and Gemma Garrett |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | received the silver in the UIL district contest; advancing to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | state, the Panhandle students faced off against other top debate |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | students from across Texas at The University of Texas at Austin on |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | March 13 and 14, 2023; during the competition, Mr. Olsen and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Mr. Menefee won four rounds in the preliminaries before earning |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | bronze medals in the semifinals; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, By taking part in the Cross-Examination Debate State |

| 19 | 19 | | Meet, these bright young Texans have ably represented their school |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and community, and the dedication they have demonstrated is sure to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | serve them well in the years ahead; now, therefore, be it |

| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 23 | 23 | | Legislature hereby commend Kelby Olsen, Andrew Menefee, McCade |

| 24 | 24 | | Smith, and Gemma Garrett on their performance in the UIL 2A |

| 25 | 25 | | Cross-Examination Debate State Meet and extend to them sincere best |
