| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ali Friemel of Groom High School achieved great |

| 6 | 6 | | distinction by winning the silver medal in the 1A girls' singles |

| 7 | 7 | | competition at the 2023 University Interscholastic League Tennis |

| 8 | 8 | | State Tournament; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Friemel honed her skills over the course of her |

| 10 | 10 | | senior year of competition and advanced to state for a third |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | consecutive season following a runner-up finish at regionals; and |

| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in |

| 13 | 13 | | Texas on April 25 and 26 at the state tournament in San Antonio, |

| 14 | 14 | | Ms. Friemel turned in an exceptional performance; after dropping |

| 15 | 15 | | the first set in her quarterfinal opener, she displayed impressive |

| 16 | 16 | | poise and resolve, winning the next two sets for a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 |

| 17 | 17 | | victory; in the semifinals, she easily defeated her next opponent |

| 18 | 18 | | in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to claim a coveted berth in the final; |

| 19 | 19 | | she gave her all in the championship match but ultimately finished |

| 20 | 20 | | as the 1A silver medalist; and |

| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for |

| 22 | 22 | | high school tennis athletes, Ali Friemel has ably represented her |

| 23 | 23 | | school and community, and she will cherish the memory of this |

| 24 | 24 | | accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Ali Friemel on winning the silver |
