44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Ali Friemel of Groom High School achieved great
66 distinction by winning the silver medal in the 1A girls' singles
77 competition at the 2023 University Interscholastic League Tennis
88 State Tournament; and
99 WHEREAS, Ms. Friemel honed her skills over the course of her
1010 senior year of competition and advanced to state for a third
1111 consecutive season following a runner-up finish at regionals; and
1212 WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in
1313 Texas on April 25 and 26 at the state tournament in San Antonio,
1414 Ms. Friemel turned in an exceptional performance; after dropping
1515 the first set in her quarterfinal opener, she displayed impressive
1616 poise and resolve, winning the next two sets for a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5
1717 victory; in the semifinals, she easily defeated her next opponent
1818 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to claim a coveted berth in the final;
1919 she gave her all in the championship match but ultimately finished
2020 as the 1A silver medalist; and
2121 WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for
2222 high school tennis athletes, Ali Friemel has ably represented her
2323 school and community, and she will cherish the memory of this
2424 accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2626 Legislature hereby congratulate Ali Friemel on winning the silver
2727 medal in the 1A girls' singles event at the 2023 UIL Tennis State
2828 Tournament and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
2929 success; and, be it further
3030 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3131 prepared for Ms. Friemel as an expression of high regard by the
3232 Texas House of Representatives.
