H.R. No. 2042 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Ali Friemel of Groom High School achieved great distinction by winning the silver medal in the 1A girls' singles competition at the 2023 University Interscholastic League Tennis State Tournament; and WHEREAS, Ms. Friemel honed her skills over the course of her senior year of competition and advanced to state for a third consecutive season following a runner-up finish at regionals; and WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in Texas on April 25 and 26 at the state tournament in San Antonio, Ms. Friemel turned in an exceptional performance; after dropping the first set in her quarterfinal opener, she displayed impressive poise and resolve, winning the next two sets for a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory; in the semifinals, she easily defeated her next opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to claim a coveted berth in the final; she gave her all in the championship match but ultimately finished as the 1A silver medalist; and WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for high school tennis athletes, Ali Friemel has ably represented her school and community, and she will cherish the memory of this accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Ali Friemel on winning the silver medal in the 1A girls' singles event at the 2023 UIL Tennis State Tournament and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Friemel as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
